I'm back.................after their wedding

Almost a month of not posting due to ennui, attending occasions, and no topic to post in mind.

Okay, I'll just narrate to you what happened to me this following weeks. I went to a simple city almost 2 and a half hours from here to visit some relatives, attend a birthday and to process some important papers.

Next, I proceeded to another city to attend the wedding of my friend, Rona and Rodge. I am their bridesmaid by the way. It was memorable to witness a vow for life. Being their bridesmaid was a total FUN! Doing errands like buying wedding garters and hairsprays, pinning flowers on the principal sponsors, looking after the flowers girls. Carrying here and there the matches for the candle, the pins for the veil and etc. The most funny yet uncomfortable part was I kept on stepping the end of the ball gown (our attire) which makes me feel awkward. That's why when I marry someday. I'll choose the knee length dress, not the toe length for my bridesmaids to wear. =) A dress that is comfortable, yet easy for them to move.

So far that's all for now....I'll keep you posted

One word, but a different meaning!

I can't believe what happened just few hours ago that I wanted to share with you. It's no big issue, I call it an embarrassing, funny? moment. Here's the details;

Mother asked me to go to the market to buy something for lunch. So I rode a trike, and ask the driver to bring me to the "Merkado". I decided to use that word since majority of people speaking in this place speaks Cebuano/Bisaya. I was so confident that the trike driver knows where we are going. Passed few minutes, I sensed something is different. The road we are passing have few people and few trikes on the road. In my mind I just thought," Strange way to go to a Market!" So I decided to check the road signs, we passed by this church with a board sign, "Mercado Street". "Oh, my I think this is not the way", I said in my mind. But I didn't told the driver. After few second, he said to me. "We are here in Mercado". I told him, "Err, is this the market, you know "merkado". As those words went out my mouth. The driver expressed his disappointment to me. I was embarrassed of course! But I just smiled....I didn't bother telling him,"I'm just new here!" (By the way, just migrated here.) And the medium of communication here is not my first language, that's why I experienced this language barrier. Back to my story, the driver drove so fast afterward that he overtook five tricycles ahead of us as we proceeded to the Public Market. I just ignore his disappointment also. As he stopped the trike, I just gave him 3 pesos extra in my fare. And said, "Thank you!".

It was my fault. I know! At least, I learned a lesson to just used the "Public Market" as a word when referring to going to the market than using the "Merkado" .lol. The driver was confused of my destination.

I joined Facebook last quarter of 2007. Recommended by my friend, Jonah. I was convinced to sign-up since she said it's a good spot to network to your present and out-of-contact friends. After about a year, I agree to her that it's one of the best social networking sites I had joined. Why? Here are my reasons;

1. User's of Facebook cannot fake their First Name, Middle Name, and Last Name. Unlike in other networking sites, that they are able to put strange symbols like hearts, dagger, trademark or copyright in their names. In Facebook, you can't do it.

2. There are different Applications to message your friends online, wherein it's like your messaging them by face to face. e.g. SuperPoke, Giving Gifts, Hug Them, Tagged them in their funny pics and videos(lol). Which I like the best!

3. You can chat with your friends, and see who's online.

4. The other Applications like surveys, e.g. Flixsters, How well do you know this person? Who's thinking of you? ( which is for me a bit tricky!) and other sorts of funny, crazy questions which results that shock or surprises you.

5. The target user's are ALL AGES (adolescents, teenagers, young adult, adult, oldies) It's so EASY to use, no hassle, and so SIMPLE to navigate!

6. There is no colorful backgrounds or themes or any dancing cursors, because the social networking site is plain White and Blue!

7. It's Fun, Fun, Fun!!!!

Finally, applause to Mark Zuckerberg, 25 years old, founder, and the brains of this social networking site. Thank you for sharing your talent in the web sphere and the world!

The Mactan Island, Cebu, Philippines experience

I'm forever grateful I had the chance to step my feet in the island of Mactan, Cebu, finally! It was a dream come true since the plane I rode last 2006 only dropped by on the airport for few minutes.

The conference I attended for three days was held in the Crown Regency Suites Mactan Hotel Cebu, Maximo Patalinghug Jr. Ave. Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines. Nice venue and good food! The waitress, servers and the front desk officers are friendly and accomodating.

I enjoyed the conference and listening to the different speakers broaden my mind about things in life. At the end of the conference, I had a chance to take pictures of the venue and so here are the images......

This is the entrance of the hotel. I took the photo from the inside of the vicinity.

This are the different Villas inside the vicinity.

This is the swimming pool taken from the stairs going there.

This is the swimming pool taken from the top.

This is the view at the top.

The Lapu-Lapu shrine is a 20-meter bronze statue in Punta EngaƱo, Mactan Island, Cebu, Philippines, erected in honor of Datu Lapu-Lapu, a native chieftain who defeated Spanish soldiers, and Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in the Battle of Mactan on 1521.

From Crown Regency Suites Mactan, we rode a taxi going toward the shrine of Lapulapu as stated above around 20-30 minutes. You can take a jeepney also if you want. We choose the taxi since the rain is fast approaching, so we hurriedly ask the taxi driver to get us to the site asap. We arrived and the photos below are the images we took.

The front view of Lapulapu's monument.

This is the left side view of Lapulapu's Monument.

This is the right side view of Lapulapu's Monument.

We just stayed around 15-20 minutes in the site since the rain is fast approaching. By the way, there is no entrance fee in the site. Only a donation box. There are souvenir shops around. No chance to check them out since we hurriedly went to catch our last flight home.

These pictures are all taken only in Mactan Island. No time to go to the downtown Cebu, due to the time of our flight. For more about Cebu just click the word. Have a nice day....

My Fishy Fishy

Since, I had arrived my everyday chores was cleaning the house, cooking, arranging stuff, typing topics, and feeding our pet fishes.

The kinds of fishes we have are the St. Peter's fish (tilapia), and catfish (hito). By the way, we have a fishpond in our backyard, a man-made one. Since the area we are living is water prone, when it rain hard the water all go to the fishpond which supplies their habitat. I wonder what will happen when the rainy seasons are over.

I enjoyed seeing the St. Peter's fish eat their food. They swam to the water surface and they eat their food like gulping water. I stay at a distance not to scare them, cause if they see humans or other moving things they swam beneath the pond. The catfish has a different personality too. They rarely surface the water, they only surface when it rains. Saw one of them crawl out of the pond like a snake, a bit creepy, but they'll return back to the pond afterwards. The St. Peter's fish and Catfish don't share a pond. The two kinds have their separate pond.

The purpose of our fishes are for amusement, when they grow big enough, then for food, of course. These kinds of fishes are less maintenance and easy to take care.

However, make sure no cats are playing around or near the pond, since cats likes to eat fishes...:)

To Marry is in the Air

My friend, Kuya Jay is going to ask his fiance's parents for her hand in marriage. Kuya Jay is the third friend of mine at present who decided to marry. My other friends, Kuya Liam will be next year, and Ate Rona this year. The three of them are 25 years old and above. Pretty age to marry, I think.

Upon learning, Kuya Jay's wedding plans. I was ecstatic! Reasons are; he decided not to end a bachelor forever, he is in his proper age to marry, and lastly, he already found "the one" God had given him.

In Filipino culture, "Pamanhikan" is a pre-wedding where the families of both the groom and bride meet and plan all the wedding details.

Honestly, I'm excited to their big day! Since they will be making a vow with their respective spouse-to-be, "for better and for worst, in richer and poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do they part." A covenant they will make in front of their witnesses and to God! A covenant I know Kuya Jay, Kuya Liam, and Ate Rona will keep.

To the three of you, the fact that you are all entering matrimony, and your single days are about to end.lol. I wish you cheers and toast of joy and love to your marriage life ahead.

PS. Don't forget to send me your invitations. ^^,

My Adieu

by nitsirk

Live here for a year
Met all of you as you
Made friends, confidantes
And shared food trips with
Laughter's and tears expressed
Accepted your peculiarity
As if blood relatives are we

Now my time has come
To say goodbye for now
I appreciate the friendships
You all had shared
I kept it in my heart no
Not mind, cause if shall
I'll forget somehow

Pleasure to meet you
been part of my life
How your friendships
Been before and now
Treasured people are hard
To find, glad I found
Them in each of you

Forget me not as I leave
Promise me you'll still
Keep up and communicate
Life's what may bring
Creator Above, I'll pray will
Bless each of you
My words of adieu

PS. I made these up because of ennui, but I really meant it.
Dedicated to the people staying at room 208 and 205.

Why I still read

Ranging from books, novels, magazines, newspapers, encyclopedia, dictionaries, and other written mediums. Of all, my favorites are the books, newspaper, and the dictionary.

My liking of books started when I was kindergarten. The storybooks with lots of big-colorful illustrations is what I enjoyed browsing! Even if that time, I still starting to learn to read. My influence has been by parents. Seeing them holding the books and newspaper, which I imitate. (You know, children used to copy what older people are reading).

My interest in dictionary started when my English teacher in high school required us new words to be written down on a notebook. That's why I started scanning the dictionary by force. Today, I appreciate my teacher's effort because I realized the importance of gaining new words and its useful.

I also tried reading novels, my favorite are the one's of Robert Ludlum and Clive Staples Lewis. I read novels when I'm in a good mood, because it requires some time with its thick pages, in short patience.

Currently, I switched to books with personal growth excellence and Christian living. I noticed as years go by my taste of books to read changes.

My purpose of reading books and other written materials are learning and personal development.

To end, I want to leave a quote my friend told me once, " Learning doesn't stops when you finish schooling, learning only stops when you are dead".

The Process of Transition

Moving, migrating, relocating, immigrating are examples of transition. There are reasons behind why people are involve in this thing. It can be that they are in search of the land of milk and honey or the greener pasture. It can be escaping someone or something. It can be being tired of the place they are living that's why they decide to transit, or sense that there is something special in that place that they wanted to go for it. Whatever are the reasons, they are doing it for your own betterment, for sure!

Involving yourself in this process requires taking risk, especially that you are going to a place of unknown. It is a matter of faith which is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. It also involves your time, effort and expenses.

Change that you will encounter are; adjustments, homesickness, and the possibility of returning if you are unable to cope up with your new situation. To a point that when you are settled in the new place, whether you like it or not, you will need to fit in. Which will require to getting along with the culture, traditions, community, people and their way of living. It will not be easy for the first few months or year. You may also experience a series of your own roller coasters, and sometimes asked "Is it worth it?". But, if you are someone looking for something new or different, or likes the adventure. These will not be a problem because you will easily blend and adapt.

Finally, the advantages of transition is you are able to broaden your relationships and spheres of influence. You are able to accept the fresh way of life. You will appreciate the diversity of your former place and your present.

And also, its a plus factor if you are able to learn to speak their language, in case the current place you are living speak a different one. Having the ability to do so, makes you more belong, and at home. And will benefit you everyday.

Are you a hundred percent ?!

I am a Filipino citizen by birth, a registered voter (still waiting for my ID), a highlander, a lowlander, and of course living in the Philippines.

If you ask me, by blood? My answer will be, " I'm not sure." Not sure because, looking back in our country's history. The first human beings came from the islands of Asia. The Negritos settled some 30,000 years ago. The Malay people who originated from the Taiwanese aborigines settled some 6000 years ago. The Spaniards around 1565. The Americans around 1898. The Japanese around 1941. Plus the local people who existed before all of the above came. If you still want my answer. I will just do a guess of taking a percentage of each of the above stated people group.

How I wish there is a device that can determine what races are in your blood and identify where your ancestors are from, or invent something like that. Dreaming?!

To conclude, I can say, "I am a Filipino!" by legal papers. By blood, I'm part this and that, but still a Filipino, even if I cannot claim that I am pure blooded.

Left or Right?

Our brain is like a walnut. It has two hemispheres. These two have different functions.

The left hemisphere specializes in analytical thought. It is responsible for dealing with "hard" facts such as abstractions, structure, discipline, rules, time sequences, mathematics, categorizing, logic, rationality, and deductive reasoning. It is also responsible for details, knowledge, definitions, planning, goals, words, productivity, efficiency, science, technology, stability, extroversion, physical activity, and the right side of the body. Left hemisphere ability is the predominant focus in school and society.*

The right hemisphere specializes in "softer" aspects than the left hemisphere. The right hemisphere is responsible for intuition, feelings, sensitivity, emotions, daydreaming, visualizing, creativity, color, spatial awareness, and first impressions. It is also responsible for rhythm, spontaneity, impulsiveness, the physical senses, risk-taking, flexibility and variety, learning by experience, relationships, mysticism, play and sports, introversion, humor, motor skills, and the left side of the body (the old belief that left-handed people are more creative does hold some scientific credence). The right hemisphere also has a holistic method of perception that is able to recognize patterns and similarities and combines those elements into new forms.*

I'm curious about what part I am dominant. So I tried a test in this link Right vs. Left Brain Creativity Test

The results show your brain dominance as being:

Left Brain Right Brain
55% 45%

You are more left-brained than right-brained. Your left brain controls the right side of your body. In addition to being known as left-brained, you are also known as a critical thinker who uses logic and sense to collect information. You are able to retain this information through the use of numbers, words, and symbols. You usually only see parts of the "whole" picture, but this is what guides you step-by-step in a logical manner to your conclusion. Concise words, numerical and written formulas and technological systems are often forms of expression for you. Some occupations usually held by a left-brained person include a lab scientist, banker, judge, lawyer, mathematician, librarian, and skating judge.*

Men and Women

I was checking out one of the boxes outside, and I came across with a book that I find quite interesting. The title of the book is "The Friendships of Women" by Dee Brestin, Copyright 1988, a year older than me. The list that you will see is not a battle of two sexes, but its their uniqueness. Here are some excerpts that I would like to share:

Girls/Women
-are comfortable with a single friend

-are usually open in showing of their affection
i.e, notes, hugs

-will empathize to a problem
-tend to be right brained
-are more interested in the person they are enjoying the activity
-her sense of worth is tied to her relationships

Boys/Men
-prefer to play in teams
-friendships are less intimate and expressive, the confidences they have are likely "group secrets"
-likely to have one-two-three solution to a problem
-tend to be left brained
-more interested in the activity than the person in whom they are doing the activity
-his sense of worth is tied to his activities

But the book didn't end just like that. On a brief account, it talks about the qualities of women, friendships, strength, weakness and so on. I recommend it to all women, as what Dr. James Dobson also said in the book. Happy Reading to whoever will find and read the book.

Falling In Drops

I expected it to come, especially the times that the four corners of where I am located is super hot. And it did come, as what I expected. For one week, it didn't stop. The wind which makes a sound of some what there's this bad weather. Makes me feel like asking, how strong will it be? The days passed, the rain continued pouring down. Realizing that there is no typhoon, and what we are experiencing is only monsoon rains. I was glad about it. Still, there is both effects toward humanity. My list will say that the:

Pros
1. The farmers is greatly benefited, talking about the fields.
2. The hotness of the env't is being cooled down.
3. It's not dusty outside.
4. The unlimited sleep of course!

Cons
1. Too much rain can cause flood in the cities and the typhoon prone provinces.
2. Muddy and wet surroundings.
3. Too lazy to get up.

I guess in short, I'm just enjoying the rainy days as of now.

This is my first official blog. So, I bet I need to welcome myself to the blogging world. Ok, I welcome myself to blogger.com. Hopefully, I will be able to post some of my insight, travel, whatsoever will come to my mind.
